STONES HAPPY TO MAKE HIS MARK

Goal hero John Stones revealed his delight at turning provider as Manchester City began their Champions League campaign in emphatic fashion with a 4-0 away win at Feyenoord.

The England defender scored twice with Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus also on target as Pep Guardiola's side roared to the top of Group F after the opening group games.

Stones began the scoring with a second minute header and rounded off a superb all-round display with another bullet header midway through the second half as City overwhelmed the Dutch champions.

And Stones said he was keen to carry on developing his game by adding to City's already potent firepower

"I don't get on the score-sheet too much! I'm trying to bring more goals to my game and I'm happy I could help," said Stones.

"The deliveries were so good - Kevin De Bruyne puts it on a plate!

LION HEARTS: Raheem Sterling congratulates John Stones

"He did it in the game against Liverpool at the weekend. You've seen his quality and again tonight.

"Like I said, I was just happy to help. It was a great start to our Champions League campaign."

The 23-year-old has started the season in dominant fashion and earned praise from his manager in the build-up to tonight's game who compared his potential to that of Gerard Pique and Philipp Lahm.

"I'm trying to work as hard as I can to be better each day - to keep improving, listening to the manager's advice and learning from other players," Stones added.

"Training together, playing against each other, makes us better players.

"It's great to hear (the manager comparing me to great players) and it's given me a goal to work for."

DELIGHT: John Stones, Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus are all smiles

For his part De Bruyne - who produced another stunning performance - said the strength of City's squad would prove key as the Blues strive for success on four fronts.

"Everybody knows about our squad. We want to compete in four competitions," said the Belgian midfielder.

"Pep Guardiola is the manager who made the most changes last season. We know what's coming!

"For some games, you will be on the bench but if you come on, you need to give that extra to the team. That's the only way we can win things.

"For me, it's a pleasure to play like this. The level of the players is so high and it gives you happiness to play in this way. "It was a very good game from us and a great start to the Champions League."
