South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma, survived the recent no-confidence vote against him at a meeting of the ruling African National Congress party on Sunday.
Zuma is facing mounting pressure against him within the ANC, opposition parties and civil society, since he sacked Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan in March.
It is believed that about 70 party officials took part in the debate, for and against the motion and that the president had the support of most speakers.
The ANC is expected to hold a media briefing on Monday, on the outcome of the NEC meeting.
Zuma is scheduled to step down from the party’s helm in December, but his term as South African head of state runs until 2019.
