Auto crash along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claims 4 lives, 12 injured

Tragedy struck along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when an auto crash involving an 18-seater bus claimed the lives of four people who were burnt beyond recognition with 12 other victims sustaining varying degrees of injuries.

Reports say the accident occurred close to ASCON, at the Mowe, Ogun State end of the Expressway, when the driver of an Iveco truck, with number plate, NSR 213 ZD, was trying to avoid hitting another vehicle but in the process veered to the other side of the road.

Unfortunately, the Iveco truck rammed into a bus, with number plate, LND 991 XN, belonging to Agofure Motors which immediately sparked off a fire which completely burnt the bus.

Those who lost their lives according to reports include a 15-year-old boy and three adults – a female and two males – who were burnt to death, while 12 other passengers sustained serious injuries.

Moments after the incident occurred, men of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mowe unit and some policemen recovered the dead bodies, while 12 persons were rescued with burns.

Speaking after the accident, an official who pleaded anonymity said; “The corpses of the four passengers have been deposited in a morgue and the fire has been put out by the RCCG firefighters. We have called the management of Agofure Motors to come with the manifest of the occupants so that we can identify the victims.”
